Flesh Temple was born out of a deceptively simple question: what is doom? On the surface, the question seems simple enough but as you peel away the layers endless other questions arise. Why are such visceral emotions often being romanticized? And why is it starting to become fun? Lamentations is Flesh Temple’s answer. It is a vision of mental illness and a lonely quest for absolution and purity for the cruelty this affliction has caused. It is an exhausting journey that builds until its ultimate emotional release.
The songs presented here are meant to leave you drained and, ultimately, satisfied. From the densely layered “Tears” to the minimalistic pummelling of “Fire, Promise” it is equal parts miasmatic and introspective without ever abandoning its metal roots. This is ultimately Flesh Temple’s biggest strength. Atmosphere is too often achieved at the expense of riffs. Not so within the confines of Lamentations.
These five tracks represent an answer to a question that is constantly shifting. A snapshot into the ice it was born in. As such, Flesh Temple was born to shift with it. It is a vehicle for sonic depression and doom—an entity of despondency and isolation—with much aural degradation to explore. Flesh Temple will continue to exist for as long as it takes, looking for its answer.
